- IPEF is more about standard setting and facilitating trade and will not involve more market access for its members.
- IPEF is created to encourage regional economies to “decouple” from the Chinese market by leading them to alternative supply chains.
The IPEF will consist of four “pillars” of work:
- Fair and resilient trade (encompassing seven subtopics, including labor, environmental, and digital standards).
- Supply chain resilience.
- Infrastructure, clean energy, and decarbonization.
- Tax and Anti-corruption.

- This is Washington’s answer to the TPP and its successor agreement, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for TPP (CPTPP) and the RCEP.
- The US had pulled out from the TTP due to enormous domestic backlash against the low/no tariff agreement in it.
